Affirmations are positive affirmations that help rewire the brain to be positive, grateful, and loving.
I am love: meaning
These are simple affirmations of "I Am" that we can repeat to ourselves to evoke positive feelings.
Examples: "I am Love ", "I am Free", "I am Eternal", "I am Strong". The combinations are limitless.
When should we turn to an affirmation statement? Well, they are perfect for meditation.
Often, affirmations appear when setting an intention at the beginning of a practice. (Read: Setting an intention for your meditation practice)
They are also powerful when used as a mantra. A mantra is a series of words that we repeat in meditation. (Read: What is your mantra?)
When using a mantra, it is believed that only positive intentions and actions will fill your mind and eliminate negativity.
Choosing an affirmation is a very simple process, similar to setting an intention
- First, find a comfortable seat - perhaps you are in your meditation space at home (Read: Setting up a meditation space at home)- Then, close the eyes. Inhale deeply. A deep exhale. With your spine straight, inhale and exhale for a long time. Make sure your shoulders are relaxed. Your tongue doesn't stick to the roof of your mouth. Your teeth are not clenched. The space between your eyebrows is resting.
- Now ask yourself: What do I need right now? How do I want to feel? What is a word that has meaning for me right now?
- You may also ask yourself: What do I need to release? What is not useful to me? What are my limiting beliefs? And you can transform them into positive intentions.
- On your next inhale, say to yourself: "I am..."
- When On your next exhale, say to yourself a word that has meaning for you right now.
Everything that comes to mind is your affirmation. Let it come with ease.
You now have your affirmation! “I am…” and include your words.
You can use words like: adventurous, intuitive, patient, balanced, abundant. The options are endless. Just give yourself the space and time to think about what you need in the present moment.
To use this affirmation in meditation, you can do the following:
- Breathe in “I am…”
- Express your speech
Repeat this over and over again until your practice is complete.
If you are using a Mala for your meditation, (Read: How to use a Mala in meditation) use your affirmation by repeating your statement on each bead. Breathe in “I Am” and breathe out your word, then turn to the next bead. Your affirmation has now become your mantra!
You can also simply repeat your affirmation when you feel low. Or keep it as a reminder throughout your day with sticky notes, placing an affirmation card in your meditation space, or wearing jewelry that reflects your affirmation.
The affirmations simply remind us that “I have enough” and that we already embody everything we seek.
